Invitation - The Quilt of Belonging / La courtepointe de l'appartenance

Created collectively by cultural groups from Victoria to Newfoundland, to the Arctic Circle, the Quilt of Belonging is the biggest textile art project in Canada. The 36-metre quilt, conceived by artist Esther Bryan, represents Canada's First Nations and dozens of other world nationalities - all of which form an integral part of Canada's social fabric. Beaded caribou hide, African fabrics, gold-embroidered silk, and butterfly wings are just a few of the materials that make up the quilt's 263 textile pieces. On tour since April, the quilt will travel next winter to Labrador, Nunavut, the Northwest Territories, and the Yukon. It continues at The Rooms until December 31, 2005.

La courtepointe de l'appartenance est le plus grand projet d'art textile au Canada, accompli par des groupes culturels de Victoria à Terre-Neuve jusqu'au cercle polaire arctique. Conçue par l'artiste Esther Bryan, la courtepointe se déroule sur 36 m et représente les Premières Nations du Canada et les autres nations du monde puisqu'elles font partie intégrante du tissu social. La peau de caribou perlé, le tissue africain, la soie brodée d'or et les ailes de papillons font partie de la gamme de textiles utilisées pour les 263 pièces de la courtepointe. En tournée depuis avril, la courtepointe poursuivra son chemin, l'hiver prochain, au Labrador, au Nunavut, aux Territoires du Nord-Ouest et au Yukon. Présentée à The Rooms jusqu'au 31 décembre 2005.
